Udar: A Nu-Metal Revival with a Deathly Edge

Dire Thorns resurrect the golden age of aggressive riffs and angst in their new single "Udar." It clearly draws influence from late 1990s and early 2000s nu-metal giants, with the likes of Korn and Coal Chamber, and the single hits hard with some heavy downtuned guitars and pounding drums that are raw in the energy.

However, Dire Thorns isn't just a rehash of the past. They throw in a dose of death metal muscle with it and intertwine it into that amorphous conglomeration of sound and aggression. Part both familiar and fresh, it's got the ability to satisfy fans within the genre and yet have the power to jolt the interest of fans needing some re-inspiration in the heavier sound category.

Two-headed rawness: the intensity is improved within the band. In getting to a minor problem, the vocal tends to get slightly lost in the mix right off the bat. However, this is a small gripe and easily forgiven upon the full power of the track kicking in.

All in all, Dire Thorns is a band with great promise, as testified by their new single "Udar." It's a blend of old-school nastiness and anger in equal measures, all piled on to make mosh pits and heads bang. If you want the dark energies of nu-metal with the bite of death metal, then "Udar" is the only track you need.

"Udar" is set for released Friday 14th of June and will be available on all streaming platforms
