Right, what can I pull out of the bag for this review’s witty little introduction? So, you know when you put something down for a while, forget where you put it then miraculously you suddenly find it again after a few months? Take that feeling and apply it to rock trio Smoke Over Elsewhere who have made a triumph return to the scene after a small break in 2024.

Not only have they returned with a re-master of previously released single ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Woman’, but they’ve also returned with a fresh line-up as well a refreshed view on hitting the stages of the vast UK music scene once again. Having spoken to frontman Rhys over messages, you know Smoke Over Elsewhere are itching to show off what they’ve been working on.

What I like most about ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Woman’ is the simplicity of the track, and sometimes simple is better. It allows the band to focus more on the riffs and vocals throughout the song. That’s not to say it doesn’t have that good old rock kick to it. The track has the vibes of old school Guns N Roses and modern-day Theory of a Deadman, with a little splash of the grunge vibes to really seal in the taste. It’s a great way to re-introduce old fans as to why they loved the Smoke Over Elsewhere vibes before, but also a great way for new fans to ease into their style and catalogue if they’ve not heard them before.

Whilst the band isn’t breaking boundaries with this first release, that doesn’t mean they’ve haven’t got something bigger brewing in the works. After all, you don’t want to throw everything out in one go and then have nothing left to give afterwards do you. And that again is why the simplicity of the track works. The guitar and bass riffs build where they need to build, it’s got a fast pace to ensure the fans will be rocking along in the venues and its got an energetic drum beat to keep the momentum going. Throw in those husky vocals of Rhys’ and you’re off to a great start

Its great to see Smoke Over Elsewhere announce their return and you can see they’ve got plenty planned with more music on the way and plenty of shows in-between. If you’re into the old school rock n roll vibes, then this is a trio for you
